Hui-Chu Julia Chang, OD, PhD
Dr. Chang received her PhD in Biology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She studied cell cycle regulation and cancer biology as a post-doctoral fellow in the prestigious Scripps Research Institute at La Jolla, CA. Her studies were published in many scientific articles and abstracts. She was later recruited to the department of Ophthalmology in the University of Minnesota conducting glaucoma research and Stem Cell therapy for ocular disorders before she moved to the New England area.
Dr. Chang graduated from the New England College of Optometry, where she was
awarded with William R. Baldwin Scholastic Achievement Award and the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society for her outstanding academic achievement. She also held many clinic honors through her internship trainings.
Dr. Chang has been providing comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens
examinations and disease management in the Boston area since 2006. She also assists in the care/management of patients with laser vision correction and cataract surgeries. Dr. Chang provides specialty contact lens fitting for diseased corneas, including keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, and post-surgical corneas. She has extensive experience and interest in fitting the most technological hybrid lenses (SynergEyes) for patients to allow best potential vision.
Dr. Chang is a certified orthokeratologist. All recent studies have shown promising result in myopia control from Orthokeratology treatment in pediatric population. Unlike LASIK, it is reversible without any surgical risk. This FDA-approved treatment has shown its safety and efficacy for patients of all ages. She is very passionate in promoting this treatment for school age children to prevent myopia progression.
Dr. Chang is a member of Orthokeratology Academy of America, Massachusetts Society of Optometrists and American Optometric Association. In addition to English, she is also fluent in Mandarin.
